The CPV Valley Energy Center is a natural gas combined-cycle electric power generator located in the Town of Wawayanda, capable of generating upwards of 650 MW. The facility will be built using the most advanced and environmentally-conscious power generation technology available today, making it one of New York’s cleanest natural gas energy facilities.
The facility will generate enough electricity to power more than 650,000 homes, helping to meet the growing demand for power and need for increased reliability in the lower Hudson Valley. The New York Independent System Operator, which operates the state’s electric grid, has cited the need for additional resources in the region as part of their planning process.
Due to the efficiency of natural gas combined cycle technology, which greatly reduces operational costs, the CPV Valley Energy Center is expected to help reduce dependency on the use of older and less efficient generators that currently serve the region, thus improving the region’s environmental profile. The CPV Valley Energy Center’s innovative design also incorporates advanced air cooling which reduces water use by approximately 85% to conserve natural resources. As part of the effort to minimize the use of natural resources, the facility intends to use recycled water from the nearby wastewater treatment facility.
