In today’s technology-driven world the demand for energy continues to soar with the increased use of computers, cell phones, air conditioning and all the modern conveniences we have come to depend upon. At Competitive Power Ventures (CPV), we are dedicated to building facilities that reliably generate electricity with value and to do so in a way that is consistent with the values of the communities in which we operate.
We are excited about the opportunity that the Valley Energy Center (VEC) presents to demonstrate our commitment to a clean energy future, a better environmental future, and especially our commitment to this community.
We hope you will take this opportunity to learn more about the Valley Energy Center project and the significant energy, environmental, and economic benefits that it can bring to the community.
“Our reputation is earned every day on every project- to generate electricity with value …and with values.”
Project Overview
The CPV Valley Energy Center will be a 630 megawatt (MW) natural gas combined-cycle electric power generator located in the Town of Wawayanda. The facility will be built using the most advanced and environmentally-conscious power generation technology available today, making it one of New York’s cleanest natural gas energy facility.
The facility will generate enough electricity to power more than 600,000 homes, helping to meet the growing demand for power and increased reliability in the Lower Hudson Valley. The New York Independent System Operator, which operates the state’s electric grid, has cited the need for additional resources in the region as part of their planning process.
Due to the efficiency of natural gas combined cycle technology, which greatly reduces operational costs, the Valley Energy Center is expected to help reduce dependency on the use of older and less efficient generators that currently serve the region, thus improving the region’s environmental profile. The Valley Energy Center’s innovative design also incorporates advanced air dry cooling which reduces water use by approximately 85% to conserve natural resources. As part of the effort to minimize the use of natural resource, the facility intends to use recycled water from the nearby wastewater treatment facility.
